Artist-in-Residence: Table Rock State Park

Table Rock State Park is in the upstate of South Carolina, only about an hour northwest of where I live, but it’s another world out there - the tall mountains and windy roads, the pitch black sky at night, the never ending hiking trails - there’s no shortage of inspiration.

I recently spent a week as Artist-in-Residence at Table Rock State Park, my 6th residency with the South Carolina State Parks Program. Each time I participate in a residency, the experience changes me. Sometimes in major ways, like becoming confident hiking alone, and sometimes it’s little things, like learning the difference between various woodpecker calls. I explore and create all week, and it fills my soul. Part of me wishes I could do this every day, but then it probably wouldn’t be so special. I get to slow down and sit still if I choose, but most of the time I get out and see as much as possible. The residency is a true gift!

This particular residency included over 25 miles hiked (both inside and outside of the park), it included 27 needle felted pieces, 1 painting, 6 towns visited, 2 nights out in the cold watching the meteor shower, and several exciting creatures sightings including an armadillo, wild turkeys, and a huge black bear on my very last hike of the week.

I hope you enjoy this short recap video that shares a little more about what I did, what I saw, and how it inspired me. It’s so hard to condense a week, which felt like a month (in a good way) into a few minutes of footage!

All of the pieces shown in the video (plus more) are available for purchase on my website. If you see something you like but would prefer a different size or frame, please message me, I’m happy to recreate any of these.

Artisphere 2021

IMG_6836.jpg

This is Artisphere weekend and if you’re anywhere in the Greenville, SC area, you know this is one of the best weekends of the year. Over 100 artists from all over the country will be set up on South Main Street surrounded by food, performances, and family activities. The festival is intentionally much smaller this year. Artisphere typically draws 100,000 people downtown, but this year they’re limiting attendance for safety reasons. I recommend grabbing a timed entry ticket from Artisphere.org to ensure you can get in when you arrive. The tickets are $5 but it’s basically a store credit to the festival. As soon as you purchase something from one of the artist booths, you can apply your ticket/coupon to the purchase, making the admission free in the end.

My fiber art will be exhibited at booth #19, and my location is right near Husk Restaurant on South Main. I’ll be demoing needle felting throughout the weekend so I hope you can stop by and see the magic for yourself. Artisphere will be open Friday May 7th from 12-8PM, Saturday 9AM-8:30PM, and Sunday 10AM-6:30PM.

And here’s a special bonus for fans of my handmade jewelry! Just a few yards away I’ll be having a trunk show at Custard Boutique at 718 South Main Street, Greenville SC.

The Bunny Project Continues

BunnyProject2020.jpg

Spring is in the air and bunnies have been spotted (both in my backyard AND in my studio)! I’m pleased to announce my next collection of needle felted animal portraits, a continuation of The Bunny Project, which is a bunny-only collection I started many years ago and add to periodically. This season’s additions are all portraits intended to be hung on a wall, and each bunny has its own personality. They’re all needle felted with dyed wool fiber, feature some sort of accessory that gives them character, and are mounted on a variety of wooden backers.

This week, I’m doing a pre-sale of the bunnies through my Instagram stories. I’ll post each one with its name, dimensions, and price, and the first person to message me with their email address (for invoicing) and shipping info, gets to adopt the bunny. The bunnies will be slightly discounted during the pre-sale and I’m offering free shipping this time as well. Whatever bunnies remain after the 24 hour pre-sale ends on Instagram will go up on the website, but they’ll be full price and I do charge shipping for website orders.

Have a look at the bunnies, pick your favorites, message me with any questions you may have, and get ready to claim yours this week. These bunnies are all one-of-a-kind, and while I can recreate some of them to a certain extent, there are elements I’ll never be able to source again (like some of the accessories or backing materials), so if you have your heart set on something in this collection and love it exactly the way it’s shown, please know I’ll most likely not make it again exactly the same way.

As always, if you have another animal or specific accessories, colors, or sizes you’re wanting for a needle felted animal portrait, I’m more than happy to do custom orders. Send me a message and let me know what you have in mind, and I’ll get back to you with a quote and estimate of delivery timeframe. There’s never any pressure to buy – quotes are free! If you decide to proceed with the commission, I do ask for payment upfront, and I’ll always send you a photo of the finished item before shipping.
